The Italian scientist and astronomer who is famously dubbed the father of science and the father of observational astronomy in some quarters had tremendous achievements in the field of physics and astronomy even at a time when there were many oppositions.

He was popularly known for improvement in the telescope which allowed him to see Venus and satellite of Jupiter. He invented an improved compass for the military. He also wrote his work, Two New Sciences, which gave a summary of kinematics and strength of materials.
