According to
reports from Korean newspaper ETNews, Samsung will consider using metal case
for its coming galaxy smartphone which will likely be the Galaxy S5. It says
Samsung will start producing magnesium and aluminium cases in its Gumi plant by
the end of this year.
ETNews claim
that ‘Industry sources’ has revealed to it that the metal casing will likely be
used for its top-end devices before it is extended to low-end devices. This has
made the Samsung Galaxy S5 which rumours abound will appear in the next spring
the prime suspect.
Previous
Samsung top-end smartphones, the Galaxy S3 and S4 have come with plastic
casing. Despite the array of features and software upgrades, customers have
complained that the plastic case makes the phone feel cheap in handling.
Some have
claimed it doesn’t have a smooth feel like a metal case would. If this new
reports are to be believed, it seems Samsung may soon join the likes of Apple
and HTC which have employed the use of metal casing in some of their
smartphones.
“Mold
engineers above class A were recently temporarily transferred to Vietnam one
after the other,” a Samsung official told ETNews.
“Currently,
considering the manpower resources of the Vietnamese plant, there seems to be
no problem with building the production line in six months.” the source said.
It is still
in the early days of the Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours so this cannot be taken as
an assurance that Samsung will truly use a metal case for the next Galaxy S
smartphone. Surely, time will tell.
