Google’s Motorola launch the awaited Moto X smartphone

The ‘always listening’ Moto X smartphone has been unveiled by Google-owned Motorola Mobility. This is the first smartphone to be developed after Google acquired Motorola in a $12.5 billion takeover.

If anyone had forgotten, I need to remind you that the first mobile phone was made by Motorola in 1973 mainly due to the work of Dr Martin Cooper. This new phone being produced by Motorola could as well change the dynamic of the fiercely contested smartphone battle.
Google's Motorola unveil 'always listening' Moto X smartphone

The main unique feature of the Motorola Moto X is the Google Now function which can be activated without touching the phone. The Google Now function can be activated with a voice control unlike the Siri in iPhones that has to be activated by touching the phone.

Saying ‘Ok Google Now’ will activate the voice control function of the new smartphone. One thing to note however is that the Moto X will only respond to the voice command of the owner of the phone.

Saying ‘Ok Google Now’ to your friends phone will not induce any action from the phone except there is a very rare case in which you have the same voice signature as your friend.

One other way Motorola is deviating from the norm is that Moto X for consumers in the United States will be produced in the Texas unlike other smartphone makers that ship supplies from Asia. Creating a manufacturing firm in the US has allowed Motorola to add another consumer experience to the new smartphone.

Motorola has claimed that users will be able to customize some parts of the hardware of their smartphone and delivery of the phone will be made in four days. The phone comes in traditional black and white colour but some part like the back cover, power button, volume control, and rim of the camera lens can be customized to your own colour without additional cost.

It is reported this offer is only valid for users of AT & T. The smartphone is coming to users by the end of August and will be available on AT & T, T-mobile, Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular networks. The standard version of the Moto X has 16GB internal memory but there is also the 32GB version which cost an extra $50.

Moto X comes equipped with a 4.7-inch AMOLED screen which makes it almost as big as the leading Android phones. It possesses both a front and rear camera of 10 megapixels and 2 megapixels respectively. It is also capable of high definition video of 1080 pixels. It comes in traditional black and white colour.

It has dimensions of 129.3 × 65.3 × (5.6-10.4) mm. The thickness of the phone is not regular throughout as it has a curve shape at the back to adapt to the shape of the palms. It is 5.6mm thin at the thinnest point which are the sides and 10.4mm thick at the middle.

It comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS and architecture of Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System with a RAM of 2GB. The internal storage is 16GB with the 32GB version also available, 2 years 50GB storage is also available free on Google Drive.

It is light at a weight of 130 grams. It is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 LE + EDR, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/b/n/ac (dual band capable), mobile hotspot GSM/GPRS/EDGE; UMTS/HSPA + up to 42 Mbps; CDMA/EVDO Rev. A (CDMA model only); 4G – LTE.

It is unclear yet how this new phone will shape the smartphone market and specification in the coming months and even years but this could be a great moment in history of smartphone making.

It has only been stated when it will be available in the US. We don’t know yet when it will be available in Nigeria or anywhere else for that matter but we will keep you informed as we get more info.
