RLG has
revealed that about 5,000 mobile phones and 2,500 laptops will be produced
daily in its newly built $50 million plant located in Ilesha in the State of Osun.
The plant named RLG & Adulawo Tech City will also provide both direct and
indirect employment to about 10,000 people.
The plant is
being aided by the State of Osun in a programme to improve technology
development in the state.

It is also
expected that the company will be fitted with green technology – biogas plant
to provide cooking gas for the staff quarter and also generation of 3KVA of
electricity which will be used for lighting.
“The factory
is a fruition of a government/private partnership. The plant is designed to
assemble a minimum of 5,000 mobile phones and 2,500 laptops per day.” the company
said through its Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Taiwo Latilo.
Latilo
further explained that 90% of the components of the devices would be
manufactured in the state in the next five years. “The facility also has a
training centre, research & development lab and a corporate office
building.” he said.
It is
expected that the first set of the employees will be from the Osun Youth
Empowerment Scheme Technology (OYES TECH). 5,000 beneficiaries have graduated
already and it is expected this programme will 20,000 beneficiaries.
“Nigeria is a
sleeping giant but it will wake up by 2015. Osun State will be the headquarters
of ICT in Africa.” said Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola.
“To this end,
RLG, in partnership with the state, has built its biggest assembly plant in
Ilesha, to provide employment and strategically key into the industry, which
today relies solely on importation.” he said.
