As with
most of the things we use, the mobile phone also need care and maintenance to
get the best out of it. Mobile phones have become an integral part of human
life, so much more that next year, it is expected that population of mobilephones would outnumber that of the world human population. In this post we want
to examine some things that could help increase the life of your phone and even
its performance which is very important.
This post I
have to admit may be more biased towards the hardware aspect of maintenance of
your phone. You already know some of these tips as they are common sense but
there are some you may not know that you need to know.
Since the
mobile phone is powered by a rechargeable battery, one of the most important
ways to help your phone is to make sure its power house is as strong as
possible. One of the places where the less is better is in charging of your
battery.
It has been
shown both by experiments and personal experiences that overcharging of you
battery could shorten its life. It is advocated that you use your fully charged
battery to at least 50% before you start another charging cycle. Most batteries
have an approximate number of charging cycles they should be put to, so
overcharging it will weaken its performance.
Recently, a new Samsung galaxy S4 got burnt after it was overcharged. I’m sure you’re not
willing to go through that. Make sure the terminals of your battery is clean;
free from dirt so that there can be a free contact between the battery and your
phone.
Before I
forget, don’t throw your phone into water; don’t even place it gently in water
because it doesn’t matter. I’ve heard of two or three (Sony Xperia Z, Samsung
Galxy S4 Active for example) mobile phones that are water resistant but even
the manufacturer will not advocate you put your device in water. Eerm, if you
put your phone in water, that could be bye bye forever.
But in the
case that your phone falls into water, some have advocated (due to their
experience, not a standard procedure) that you remove the battery and your SIM
card to allow it to dry for a reasonably long time before powering it on again.
One thing you should also note is that while drying it, do not blow it or shake
it to remove the water content. This could spray water into other parts of the
circuit that were not previously affected (source: a technician). Or better
still, consult a technician.
One other
thing is that you should not place your phone in a hot condition if you’re
still interested in using it. Heat will affect the components of your mobile
phone and consequently its performance. It is especially dangerous for your
battery as excess heat could destroy your battery. For instance, don’t leave
your phone in a car parked in the sun as it could fry the microcircuits in it.
If you’re
using a smartphone which has a touchscreen (yes, some doesn’t have, ask
Blackberry), it is advisable to use a screen guard. Yes there is gorilla glass,
but using a screen guard will secure it more. It gives added protection against
scratches and protects the screen if your phone drops to the ground. Just my 50
cents.
Also you
have to be careful because gravity is always active, looking for phones to
bring down, don’t let the screen of your phone if not the whole phone be a
victim of this. Don’t over exaggerate your gorilla glass, it breaks. I’ve seen
one break before, so I know.
Avoid
applying much pressure on your screen as it weakens the glass and the glass
could just break one day due to a small event. It was an accumulated, gradual
process not that the glass was not strong. Odds are it won’t break the first
time it falls.
One more
thing is that you should be wary of exposing your phones to magnets especially
strong magnets. Strong magnets could affect the antenna of your device and this
will cause the battery to drain faster, thereby reducing the battery’s useful
life.
I hope this
will help in maintaining your mobile phones.
Knowing these could prolong the life and performance of your precious mobile phone
