According
to reports, Google is planning to develop its wearable device Google Glass for
dogs that are working. The project named FIDO (Facilitating Interactions for
Dogs with Occupation) will allow pooches to bite down or activate a sensor
which can send information to its handler.

New York Post reports that Google (led by the technical lead of Google’s hot new
product, Thad Starner) has collaborated with Georgia Institute of Technology to
develop this device which would enhance the communication between bomb-sniffing
dogs and their owners.
The Google
Glass for humans has not yet been released to the public (except to developers)
although it is expected to be released next year. Dogs are currently testing the device which
would allow a dog to activate a sensor which then activates a tone that is
heard through an earpiece. It is expected that the technology will eventually
be able to transmit video from a dog to a human heads-up display.
There has
been a relative success in the trials according to Associate Professor Melody
Jackson who stated that three tested dogs were able to activate the device
quickly using their mouth. Despite Google Glass not being available for public
use, there have been hostilities for the device in various quarters because of
people’s privacy which has suddenly become a very sensitive issue over the past
week. Snowden’s saga has shown that people now take their privacy very serious.
