Abu
Dhabi-based Sarah Shurrab, got the shock of her life when she woke up to
discover that her one month old trendy Samsung Galaxy S4 was burning at the
charging point.
“I cannot
explain to you my extreme frustration, disappointment and extreme fear when I
found my brand new Samsung Galaxy S4 burning at the charger connection to the
phone,” she wrote to Samsung and Emirates 24/7.

She bought
the smartphone on the 29th of May, 2013, a month after it was available in the
United Arab Emirates. “Sadly, one month later, the phone was found burning,
while charging. It’s only thanks to God that I woke up in the middle of the
night and controlled the burning before it could cause damage to my home and
family,” she wrote.
“I woke up
in the middle of the night to attend to my toddler, and it was about 2am in the
night. I think it was charging about three hours then,” Sarah told Emirates
24/7 and even sent the pictures of the burnt phone to them.
Samsung
Gulf Electronics have revealed that they are “conducting a thorough examination
to determine the exact cause of the incident.”
She
initially had problems getting another unit of the smartphone to replace the
burnt one. “The retail agent said that Samsung never replaces any phone no
matter what the fault is, and this is a take it or leave it. There is nothing
they can do,” she wrote in the letter.
She was
able to get her smartphone back after Emirates 24/7 contacted Samsung on her
behalf.
Samsung
Gulf Electronics later emailed a statement to Emirates 24/7: “We have gotten
hold of the product in question, and will be conducting a thorough examination
to determine the exact cause of this incident. We would like to assure our
customers that we have always employed strict quality control and safety
standards to ensure a safe and pleasant user experience.”
That is a
warning, don’t overcharge your device…
