The latest
Android operating system, Android Jelly Bean (4.1 and 4.2) has surpassed its predecessor
Android 3.2 Ginger Bread to become the most popular version of the operating
system used by consumers.
Jelly Bean
now accounts for 37.9% of users of Android operating system while Ginger Bread
comes close at 34.1%. The least used are 1.6 Donut and 3.2 Honeycomb which both
have a share of 0.1% of the spoil.
This is the
first time that Jelly Bean will be the most used Android OS. Last month, Jelly
Bean had 33% share of Android users while Ginger Bread topped at 36.5% and Ice
Cream Sandwich came third with 25.6%.
Jelly Bean
gained the second position in May when it dispossessed Ice Cream Sandwich with
28.4% of users compared with 27.5 of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Although it
must be noted that a major factor; the launch of two new big smartphone which
run on Jelly Bean has contributed to the popularity of the OS. Samsung S4 (which
has reportedly sold 20 million units) and HTC One were recently launched and
this contributed to the rise of Jelly Bean.
It is
expected that Google will launch another version of Android, Key Lime Pie, in October
to mark the fifth year anniversary of Android OS.
Android
operating system now have more than 50% of share of the smartphone market,
beating its closest rival, Apple’s iOS by a long distance. Good for Google and bad
for Apple, Android is amassing more smartphone users by the day.
