Facebook acquires Whatsapp for $19 billion

The mega social media giant has announced the acquisition of messaging app Whatsapp for a price of $19 billion. $4 billion will be paid in cash, $16 billion in Facebook shares and $3 billion in vesting restricted stock units.

Mobile data usage had an 81% increase in 2013

The latest release by Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) has revealed that data usage by mobile devices increased from 820 petabytes in a month in 2012 to 1.5 exabytes in a month in 2013. It went further to forecast that this will increase to 15 exabytes in a month by 2018.

Sony dumps its PC business

Japanese technology company, Sony has announced it will be selling its Vaio PC business to  for the sum of $490 million. It also added that this will see 5,000 workers lose their jobs by the end of its fiscal year in March, 2015.
