Facebook acquires Whatsapp for $19 billion

social media giant has announced the acquisition of messaging app Whatsapp for
a price of $19 billion. $4 billion will be paid in cash, $16 billion in
Facebook shares and $3 billion in vesting restricted stock units.

its earnings call on the 4th of February and its market capitalization has fell
about 25% from about $36 billion to $27 billion in an occurrence that showed

Mobile data usage had an 81% increase in 2013

The latest
release by Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) has revealed that data usage by
mobile devices increased from 820 petabytes in a month in 2012 to 1.5 exabytes
in a month in 2013. It went further to forecast that this will increase to 15
exabytes in a month by 2018.

Sony dumps its PC business

technology company, Sony has announced it will be selling its Vaio PC business
to for the sum of $490 million. It also
added that this will see 5,000 workers lose their jobs by the end of its fiscal
year in March, 2015.

RLG to produce 5,000 mobile phones daily in Osun plant

RLG has
revealed that about 5,000 mobile phones and 2,500 laptops will be produced
daily in its newly built $50 million plant located in Ilesha in the State of Osun.
The plant named RLG & Adulawo Tech City will also provide both direct and
indirect employment to about 10,000 people.
