Online video
giant Youtube, has announced that it will be holding its first ever music
awards on the 3rd of November this year. This will include music from
established stars around the world and online stars that are popular on
Youtube.
“From catalyzing
careers and pop culture phenomena to propelling a song’s rise to number one on
Billboard’s Hot 100, our global community’s influence is felt across the music
industry,” Danielle Tiedt, Youtube’s vice president of marketing said in a
statement.
“We’re
thrilled to celebrate our fans and the music they love with a whole new kind of
awards show – the first ever Youtube Music Awards – judged by you.”
Youtube
announced via its official blog that the nominations will be announced on the
17th October, about two weeks to the event. Voting will commence and will be
judged by the number of comments and shares on a video.
Stars that
are expected to perform at the Youtube Music include Lady Gaga, Eminem and
Arcade Fire. Youtube stars expected to perform include Lindsey Stirling who has
3.2 million Youtube subscribers and CDZA who has 215,000.
The event
will hold and there will be performances at Seoul, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro and
London. This will lead to the live event in New York City where the event
proper will hold.
Film maker
Spike Jonze will be the executive director of the event while VICE and Sunset
Lane Entertainment will be the executive producers. Actor Jason Schwartzman
will be the host for the awards.
The 90-minute
event will be live on Youtube. “The whole night should feel like a Youtube
video itself.” Spike Jonze noted.
