Another spectacular
change has come around in Marissa Mayer’s reign at Yahoo and it is the change
of Yahoo’s logo which is occurring for the first time since the company was
founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo, 18 years ago.
Kathy Savitt,
Chief Marketing Officer of Yahoo revealed on the Yahoo’s Tumblr page. There has
been change of logo over the past 30 days on Yahoo’s site to determine the logo
that will be perfect for representing the internet giant.
New Yahoo! logo |
“We’re excited
to share the new Yahoo logo with you. It will begin appearing across Yahoo
properties globally tonight.” she said.
“We wanted a
logo that stayed true to our roots (whimsical, purple, with an exclamation
point) yet embraced the evolution of our products.” Kathy said in the post.
Marissa Mayer’s
appointment as the Yahoo CEO 14 months ago has seen many changes to its
homepage and other services and now a new logo.
Old Yahoo! logo |
“We hadn’t
updated our logo in 18 years. Our brand, as represented by the logo, has been
valued at as much as ~ $10 billion. So, while it was time for a change, it’s
not something we could do lightly.” Marissa Mayer revealed on Yahoo’s Tumblr
page.
Yahoo had
also acquired the microblogging service Tumblr for $1.1 billion during this
time.
This has seen
an increase in traffic for Yahoo to the extent that it leapfrogged Google’s traffic in July in the U.S. for the first time since 2011 despite not accounting for Tumblr’s
traffic.
What do you
think about the impact the former Google employee is having at Yahoo and what do
you think about the logo?
