Samsung held
the second edition of their unpacked event on the 4th of September where it
disclosed three spectacular products to the watching world ahead of IFA 2013 in
Berlin, Germany.
The most
awaited gadget was the smartwatch Galaxy Gear which industry analysts and
consumers had impatiently expected what Samsung will be doing with its new
foray into the smartwatch industry. It is expected that this industry could be
the trend in few years to come just as the smartphone is now.

The Galaxy
Gear comes with a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display and a resolution of 320 ×
320. It has a single core 800MHz processor and a 1.9-megapixel camera which is
fixed onto its strap. It comes with a 315mAh battery which according to reports
should last for 24 hours of moderate use.
It also comes
with Bluetooth 4.0, accelerometer, gyroscope, two internal microphones with
noise cancellation support, 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. The smartwatch
will reportedly cost $300 when it is available in October.
The issue
though is that you can’t use the smartwatch alone unless you pair it with a
Samsung Galaxy device which means that if you want to use the smartwatch and
you don’t have a galaxy device yet, you’d better prepare to spend more than
$300.
The second
product unveiled by Samsung is the phablet Galaxy Note 3, the successor of Note
2 which was also launched last year during the same event. The Note 3 comes at
a bigger size with a screen size of 5.7 inches which is a super AMOLED 1080p
display.
Galaxy Note III |
The Galaxy Note
3 is thinner and lighter than its predecessor though. The Galaxy Note 3 has a
resolution of 1920 × 1080 with a pixel density of 368 ppi (pixels per inch).
It has a 13 megapixels rear camera with high CRI LED flash and a 2 megapixels
front camera.
It comes with
a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor for LTE models or a 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos
Octacore for 3G models. It also comes with 3GB RAM, 32GB or 64GB of storage
with a microSD slot.
It comes with
Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and a 3,200mAh battery for its power
demands. It is expected that it will run on the new Android 4.3. It will ship
globally on the 25th of September and arrive in the US and Japan in October.

The third
product released by Samsung is the Note 10.1 2014 edition. The Galaxy Note 10.1
is still the same size of 10.1 inches like previous versions but it weighs
lighter in comparison. It comes with a WQXGA Super Clear LCD screen which has a
resolution of 2,560 × 1,600 and a pixel density of 299 ppi (pixels per inch).
It comes with
an 8,220mAh battery with options of 16GB/32GB/64GB of storage and a microSD
card slot. It comes with a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor/1.9GHz octa-core
processor as it is found in the Note 3. It has a 3GB RAM to support the device.
It will come
in three editions which are: Wi-Fi only, Wi-Fi with 3G and Wi-Fi with LTE. Its image
demands will be catered for with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel
front camera. It will be available in white and black colours. Although the release
date is not yet known, it is expected that it will be available to users in the
third quarter.
The effect of these products will be interesting
in the smartphone market and time will show how it will affect the biggest
smartphone maker.
