After wide
acceptance of the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Electronics Co has announced a
“powerful yet compact version of Samsung’s bestselling smartphone”. According
to Samsung, the 4.3-inch screen smartphone “delivers the superior performance,
intuitive ease of use and sleek design of the Galaxy S4 in a highly portable,
chic and compact design.”
There have
been comparisons made with the Samsung Galaxy S4 to see if the smaller budget
Galaxy S4 has some of the features that made Galaxy S4 acceptable to customers.
The major difference apart from the obvious (which is size) is the price.
Although the price has not been released by Samsung, it will be cheaper to
allow customers enjoy the groundbreaking technology of the S4 at lower cost.
The smaller
Samsung Galaxy S4 has physical specifications of 124.6×61.3×8.94mm and weighs 107g. It is equipped with a 4.3-inch qHD 16:9 super
AMOLED display. It also employs the use of 1.5GB of RAM
as compared to 2GB of the Galaxy S4, 1.7GHz dual core processor as compared
with 1.9GHz quad core processor/1.6GHz octa core processor of its predecessor.
It has a screen resolution of 960×540 at 256ppi (pixels per inch)
compared to 1,920×1,080 at 441ppi.
It has an
internal storage of 8GB (can accept MicroSD card of up to 64GB) compared to
16GB or 64GB internal memory of S4 depending on the edition (can also accept
MicroSD card of up to another 64GB). It possesses Bluetooth 4.0 which allows
you to share files faster.
The S4 Mini
has an 8-megapixel rear and 1.9-megapixel front camera compared to 13-megapixel
rear and 2.1-megapixel front camera. The S4 Mini spots the latest Android 4.2.2
Jelly Bean OS. It will be equipped with 4G LTE/3G HSPA +/3G Dual SIM, as
determined by the market. It will also have a battery of 1,900mAh and come in
white Frost or Black Mist colours.
On the
software side which is very important if not the most important, the Galaxy S4
Mini is expected to have apps like S Health, S Translator, and Google Play in a
more compact form.
The Samsung
Galaxy S4 is expected to be launched on the 20th of June, 2013 at a London
event. More details will be known after the launch of the smartphone. It must
be noted that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini despite being mini with a 4.3-inch
screen is still bigger than the iPhone 5’s 4-inch display.
The S4 Mini looks great and has a good set of features. Lets hope it lives up to expectations.
