Zeus, a
malware that appeared six years ago in 2007 has reappeared again, this time to
drain bank accounts of victims when they click infected links on Facebook.
The malware
catches victims like thief in the night as it does not show any symptom of its
existence on their computers, that is until they give out information about
their bank accounts. This malware steals bank account details of the particular
user and bleed their account dry.
Worse
still, the malware can replace your bank website (you’ll see the interface of
your bank’s website) just to get your account details and other important
details like your social security number.
Zeus is a
malware controlled by an online criminal gang, the Russian Business Network.
The malware have been reportedly found in links on Facebook fan pages such as
one created by a group called “Bring the NFL to Los Angeles”.
Experts
have said the Zeus virus only affect Windows computers but security firm Trend
Micro discovered that the virus has targeted smartphone users in recent years.
Security researchers at the Tokyo based Trend Micro also revealed that the
attack peaked in the month of May.
Eric
Feinberg, founder of the advocacy group Fans Against Kounterfeit Enterprise (FAKE)
noticed Zeus serving malicious links on NFL Facebook fan pages (like the on
mentioned above). He sent the links to a security lab, Malloy Labs, which
confirmed his suspicions. He claims he has tried to alert Facebook to the
problem but wasn’t satisfied with their response.
A Facebook
spokesman has actually reminded of a statement reminding users to scan for
malware and remove it from their devices. It is reported that Facebook and FBI
are investigating the development.
That is why
the brain is the most important organ in the body. What sheer strength and
bravery may not be able to achieve, the brain can achieve in an easier and
anonymous way. This is a use of the brain in a negative way though and you
should be careful of the links you click on Facebook.
Wow! The pic even looks scary
