Facebook in a blog post has revealed that clickable hashtags will be available to users in the coming weeks beginning from Wednesday for some users. Hashtags has been a culture on mega social site Twitter and Facebook’s Instagram.

Facebook to add hashtags to its services
“To date, there has not been a simple way to see the larger view of what’s happening or what people are talking about. To bring these conversations more to the forefront, we will be rolling out a series of features that surface some of the interesting discussions people are having about public events, people, and topics. As a first step, we are beginning to roll out hashtags on Facebook.” wrote Greg Lindley, product manager for hashtags, in the post.

“We’ll continue to roll out more features in the coming weeks and months, including trending hashtags and deeper insights, that help people discover more of the world’s conversations.” The statement continued.

It was revealed that the hashtags will conform with your privacy settings, which means only those who can see your posts will see your hashtags. When you click on a hashtag, you will be able to see posts that have used the hashtag just like on twitter.

About three years ago, I saw a tweet on twitter which classed anyone who use hashtags on Facebook as a weirdo but that will change very soon. Some users of Facebook already use the hashtags even though it is not clickable. Now it means we can make things trend and go viral on Facebook.

What do you think of this new development from Facebook? Will it spark more use of the social site from you?
