Apple unveils the low-budget iPhone 5C

Apple Inc. at its event in California has unveiled the low-end iPhone 5C as one of the smartphones it is unveiling today. The iPhone 5C was made for the consumers who may not be able to afford the price of the premium versions.

Previously, we have lowered the price – but now we are going to replace the iPhone 5 with not one but two new designs.” Apple CEO Tim Cook said at the event.

The iPhone 5C possess most of the functions of the iPhone 5 but comes in plastic case of five colours which are: white, rose, yellow, blue, and green. It has a 4-inch retina display with an A6 processor. It also come equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 and a dual-band Wi-Fi.
It possesses an 8-megapixel camera, the same as the iPhone 5. However, it has a bigger battery than the iPhone 5 which means it will have a longer operating time than the latter. It will run on the new iOS 7.
The iPhone 5C also has the best LTE capabilities possessed by a smartphone. It is expected that the iPhone 5C will go for a cost of $99 (about 16,000 naira) for the 16GB version and $199 (about 32,000) for the 32GB version. This is only for U.S. carriers and it is not clear how much it will cost in other countries.
Tech site CNET claims in its live blog of the event that the phone (without a carrier) will cost about $549 (about 85,000). It claims Apple didn’t reveal the price tag for a good reason. In my opinion, revealing the price would have reception of the smartphone.
It must be noted that this is not a confirmed figure from Apple so it should not be taken authoritatively.
iOS 7 will be released for download for older Apple devices, iPhone 4 and newer, iPad 2 and newer on the 18th of September. Of course, it will eb free for download for the said devices according to Apple.
The iPhone 5C will be available for pre-order from 13th of this month and will be shipped by 20th.
Undoubtedly, all things being equal, Apple should increase its smartphone market share in the coming months. Analysts have claimed this was a make-or-break event for Apple and very soon, we will know if Apple is still very well in the battle of smartphones.
