At the
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, many groundbreaking products have been
revealed by different manufacturers but the steal of the show may have been
Samsung and LG for their bendable TVs.
Earlier in
the CES 2014, Samsung and LG have revealed a curved 4K UHD (Ultra-High
Definition) TV measuring 105 inches (267cm). The dust on is not yet settled and
Samsung has revealed a prototype of an 85-inch (216cm) bendable TV.

Samsung
revealed that the bendable TV can be bent to suit the need of the user through
the remote control. The remote control can be used to bend the television set
depending on the location and number of the viewers.
“Depending on
how consumers are using their TV, wherever their on-screen desire takes them,”
executive vice president, Samsung Electronics America, Joe Stinziano said.
“Viewers can decide how they watch TV – on flat screen panel or a curved
screen. It’s all about giving the customer control over their viewing
experience.”
“Samsung
takes pride in connecting consumers with things that make their heart beat
faster, and in 2014, we’ll be taking their passion for entertainment to new
heights.” he concluded.
Of course,
this TV set will straighten when it is not in use. LG electronics also revealed
its own smaller 77-inch (196cm) 4K UHD bendable TV at the CES.
The two South
Korean companies have revealed that both the curved screen TV sets and the
bendable TV sets are important to the viewing experience of consumers.
It is claimed
that a curved view suit the curvature of the eyes to make the viewing a better
experience.
However, the
big sizes which ravaged the smartphone industry can be said to have entered the
TV industry. It is yet unclear if this will give a better user experience to
consumers like the South Korean companies claim.
Analysts are
increasingly skeptical that this will really be an improvement over the
straight TVs that most consumers already have in both durability and colour
quality.
Will
Findlater, global online editor for Stuff Magazine, said: “The jury is still
very much out on whether curved displays make much difference to image quality
and the experience you have when watching a TV. At this stage it does feel like
a bit of a gimmick.”
It is not yet
clear how much these mammoth-sized TVs will cost or when it will be available
to consumers but there are rumours of later this year or early 2015. I have to
warn you though; you will need a bigger living room if you want one of those.
