The biggest
social site, Facebook has revealed its results for the last quarter. Facebook
had a remarkable result for the quarter even exceeding analysts’ prediction but
the only negative was that teen usage on the social site reduced during the
quarter.
Facebook had
an increase in active monthly users to 1.2 billion, an 18% increase from the
same period last year and active daily users increased to 728 million, a 25%
increase from last year.
Mobile
monthly active users stood at 874 million, a 45% increase from the previous
year. Likewise, daily active users on the social network were over 500 million.
Facebook made
$2 billion revenue and a net profit of $425 million compared to a net loss of
$59 million in the same period last year. Facebook has also increased revenues
from mobile devices as 49% of its total quarterly revenue is from mobile
devices compared to 14% in the same quarter last year.
However,
Facebook’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), David Ebersman has revealed that
Facebook saw a reduction in younger teens’ usage, an age bracket believed to be
between 13 and 17. He also stressed that this data is not reliable as teens are
liable to lie about their age.
“Youth usage
among U.S. teens was stable overall from Q2 to Q3, but we did see a decrease in
daily users partly among younger teens,” he said.
Analysts have
indicated that teens may be moving to social networks like snapchat, twitter,
and Facebook’s instagram because they don’t want to be scrutinized by their
parents who are allegedly on Facebook.
