The rumours
about the proposed smartwatch Galaxy Gear and phablet Galaxy Note 3 being
prepared for a launch in September before the IFA event is no more a rumour as
it has been confirmed by a company executive.
Lee Young-hee,
Samsung Mobile’s Vice President revealed to Korea Times that both devices will
indeed be unveiled at the Samsung event on the 4th of September before the IFA
consumer electronics fair in Berlin, Germany.

“We will be
introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event
in Berlin on Sept. 4,” she told Korea Times.
She has
however debunked the rumours that the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will come with a
flexible display. She also indicated that it will be an accessory to a
smartphone rather than an independent device in itself.
“The Gear won’t
have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current
smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile
communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to
the mobile industry,” Lee said.
She didn’t
indicate the details of the Galaxy Note 3. It is also yet unclear when the
devices will be available to consumers.
There have
been leaks of the Galaxy Note 3 though which indicated that the phablet will
have a 5.69-inch screen. Other specifications expected to grace the Android device
are: 1.8GHz processor speed, 3GB RAM, 16GB/32GB/64GB memory options, with a
MicroSD slot which will allow the memory to be extended for an additional 64GB.
It will come with a 3200mAh battery for its power requirements.
After the
popular opinion that the smartphone market of which Samsung is a leader in may
soon reach saturation in sales, Samsung is trying to diversify into another
electronic product which could be the trend in a short time to come.
It is being rumoured that Samsung’s rival,
Apple is also trying to make a smartwatch device but the development on ground
means that Samsung will come out with its product first. It is expected that
Apple may unveil its smartwatch in 2014.
It is expected that Sony will also launch its Xperia Z1 smartphone on the same day, 4th of September.
