The Syrian Electronic Army has moved to
another major media outlet as it infiltrated British Sky Broadcasting Group’s twitter
account.
The group had previously taken
responsibility for hacking social media accounts for CBS, NPR, the BBC, the
Financial Times, and several other major news and media outlets. They have been considered researchers at HP as
one of the most skilled hacking teams in the world.
In one of its
most popular activities, it hacked Associated Press’ Twitter account in April,
and announced on the account falsely that President Barack Obama was injured in
the White House explosion.
There was an update from the Sky Help Team that users should uninstall Sky's android apps until the situation is contained but Sky has come out to refute the tweet claiming the help account was hacked an that users should not uninstall the apps.
"Sky Android apps previously downloaded by Sky customers are unaffected and there is no need to remove them from your Android device" it said in a tweet from another help account @SkyHelpTeam1.
