Apple may unveil new smartphone, iPhone 5S on September 10

All ye who have been waiting impatiently for a new smartphone from Apple, it seems thy wait may be over in a very short time.

Tech blog All Things Digital has reported that according to its sources, the new iPhone which is expected to be iPhone 5S is expected to be released during Apple’s event on the 10th of September.

It is expected that the smartphone will also spot the new Apple operating system iOS 7 which was announced in Apple’s Developer Conference in June and has seen five betas released in recent weeks.

One other possibility is that Apple could also unveil its rumoured budget smartphone iPhone 5C which will be packed in a plastic case. Apple is reportedly trying to introduce a cheap model of the smartphone into the market to compete with rivals, especially in developing countries.

The new iPhone is one of the highest tech expectations this year as it is almost a year since Apple has released the iPhone 5. One other thing the tech industry viewers are looking out for is how this will affect Apple’s share in the smartphone market.

According to the latest IDC report Apple has dropped to 13.2% share in the smartphone market in the second quarter of 2013.

In another development, KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5Mac) has reported that the new Apple smartphone would likely come with a sapphire power button and the button will be convex compared to the traditional plastic and concave power button.

This, Kuo thinks is to accommodate the finger sensor and also to make the power button as scratch resistant as possible as by using a material that is only second to diamond in hardness. It is claimed that this sapphire power button will also be able to protect the finger sensor in the power button.

He also noted that Apple will also try to make the finger sensor and security its unique feature in competing with Android and Windows phone.

“We think iPhone will continue to lead Android phones and Windows Phone by a wide margin in fingerprint sensing technology and design. As such, Apple will likely be able to offer users a more secure and more intuitive way to conduct mobile payment transactions and access cloud computing services, thereby strengthening advantages of the ecosystem.” he told 9t05Mac.

It must be noted that Apple also acquired fingerprint security company AuthenTec in a $356m deal last year

Expect more updates as we get more details prior to the release of the new Apple smartphone.
