In its bid
to become the number one internet messaging application (which I think it
already is), Whatsapp has introduced a new feature to make its voice messaging
a better experience for users.
Whatsapp
recently reached 300 million users on the popular messaging app. It is
estimated that about 11 billion messages are sent daily in chats.
A Whatsapp
spokesman revealed to Engadget that the company has “spent a lot of time
refining [voice messaging] and made it really simple to use”
The new
voice messaging feature now allows users to record messages of any length by
holding down the record button in the app. The audio can now be played in the
app without transferring it to a media player.
Playback
also switches to the earpiece if one is connected to the device. The mic icon
turns blue when the recipients have listened to the message. It has been made
available to iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BB10, and Nokia Symbian/S40 users.
If you have
not noticed it in your whatsapp, next time you open the application, you will
see ‘record’ when you try to send a message to another user. Holding the record
button down will record your message. When you’re through with the recording,
you press again to send to the recipient.
On the
audio message there’s an option to increase the volume with * and reduce it
with # when playing.
