According to
Polk’s data of registered vehicles around the world, the Ford Focus is
retaining its lead after the first quarter of 2013, the latest data available.

288,724 units
of the car have been sold already in 2013. Of these, 25,081 units were sold in
the UK. Ford Focus has had an 18% increase in sales in Brazil where it sold
7,227 units of the car.
Obviously, the
Ford Focus had its highest sales in China where it had a 153% increase from the
first quarter of 2012 to sell 104,065 units in the first quarter of 2013.
Vice
President of marketing, sales, and service for Ford of Europe, Roelant de Waard
has claimed that the stats have shown their acceptability with customers.
“Our global
Focus has struck a chord with customers around the world because it offers remarkable
technologies, excellent fuel economy and performance, super driving dynamics
and all at a very competitive price,” he said.
He also believed
that continued development is the foundation on which the model’s success is
built. It has been announced that Ford Focus will be the first non-hybrid car
to achieve 99g/km CO2 emissions with its 1.0litre EcoBoost engine
when it is available next year.
“Continual development has been critical to
the Focus’ global success, as demonstrated by the new Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost
with 99g/km CO2 that will launch in Europe early next year,” he
said.
“More
powerful than a first generation Ford Focus with a 1.6-litre engine from less
than 10 years ago while producing 47 percent less CO2, it’s a
testament to Focus development never standing still.” Waard said.
Ford now
produces the Ford Focus from 9 plants around the world which has given it the
ability to produce about two Focus cars per minute.
Ford Focus was
also the best-selling car in the year 2012 as it reportedly sold 1.06 million
units. Toyota disagreed with the stats though saying its Corolla brand outsold
the Ford Focus by about 140,000 units.
