Internet
Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has recently passed its resolution
that disapproves domain names without a dot.
This is a
blow to Google which is trying to create a dotless domain http://search which
will allow users to choose any particular search engine that is registered on
the service.

ICANN has
claimed it disapproved the dotless domain because of security reasons. It claimed
unusual domain names are hard to secure and may have stability issues.
There are
hopes that the issue could be resurrected once again when security of big
websites have improved miles ahead of what we have today.
What do you
think about the dotless domain? Do you support or are you against it?
In another
related development, Google’s services went offline yesterday for about seven
minutes (started 4:37pm Pacific Time, all Google’s services were back online by
4:48pm).
According to
web analytics firm GoSquared, worldwide internet traffic dropped by 40 percent
during the period Google had a blackout. This underlines the importance of
Google to the World Wide Web. At the time of this report, the cause of the
blackout is not yet known to the media.
