Edison is particularly popular for his invention of the incandescent bulb
(filed for the patent in 1879, granted in 1880) that is commercially viable.
History has it that he tried more than 10,000 times before he could perfect the
incandescent bulb. He also invented the phonograph and the motion picture
camera.
He is the
man responsible for developing the first electric power generating station and
distribution system in the world on Pearl Street in Manhattan, New York in 1882.
