Popular rapper
Jay-Z has announced his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail on a Samsung advert
which aired during the NBA Finals game between Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs
on Sunday (June 16).
“We don’t
have any rules, everyone’s trying to figure it out. That’s why the internet is
like the wild west. The wild, wild west. We need to write the new rules.” He
continued in the studio which also features Pharell Williams, Switzz Beatz, and
Timbaland.
“This album
is about … this duality of how you navigate through this whole thing, through
success, through failures, through all this and remain yourself,” Jay-Z told
Rick Rubin in the three-minute commercial.
The album
is expected to be released to the public on July 7th but it is expected that
the album will be available on the app by July 4th, three days earlier.
The app
will be up for download by 24th of June and the first million users of Samsung
Galaxy SIII, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note II to download the Magna Carta app will
be able to grab the album for free.
It is
expected that the app will reveal an unprecedented inside look into the album
with personal stories and inspiration in tow.
Reports from
The New York Post earlier this month claim the contract between Jay-Z and
Samsung is the biggest of its kind at 8-figures believed to be about $20
million. The last album by Jay-Z was about four years ago when he released The
Blueprint 3.
Jay-Z is
expected to tour with his new pal Justin Timberlake later this summer.
