The only
positive that was expected to come out of last week for Blackberry was the
rollout of Blackberry Messenger to iPhones and Android powered devices.
Blackberry had earlier announced a loss of about $1bn in the second quarter and its intention to retrieve 4,500 of their duties in the company.
However, the
rollout of the BBM didn’t go smoothly as expected as Blackberry claimed there
was an earlier unreleased version of BBM for android that was making the rounds
before the official BBM app arrived to the Google Play Store.
The
unreleased app has some issues according to Blackberry and this has led the
Canadian company to pause the rollout of the app. It also claimed the
unreleased version will be blocked on the devices already using it but iPhone
users who have downloaded it can continue using the app.
“Prior to
launching BBM for Android, an unreleased version of the BBM for Android app was
posted online. The interest and enthusiasm we have seen already – more than 1.1
million active users in the first 8 hours without even launching the official
Android app – is incredible.
“Consequently,
this unreleased version caused issues, which we have attempted to address
throughout the day. Our teams continue to around the clock to bring BBM to
Android and iPhone, but only when it’s ready and we know it will live up to
your expectations of BBM.” Blackberry revealed in a blog post.
It has also
asked those who are looking out for the release and would like to be informed
to follow BBM on Twitter (@BBM) and register for updates at www.BBM.com.
BBM was
initially released in New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, India and the United
Arab Emirates. The date for the new release was not indicated in the statement.
