North Korea planning to unveil its own smartphone

According to North Korea Tech, North Korea is in the latter stages of producing a smartphone that will be exclusively from North Korea.

Reports from Korean Central News Agency revealed that Korean head Kim Jong-Un visited the company where the smartphone, AS1201 Arirang is being manufactured. The smartphone is expected to run on the popular platform, Android.

Kim reportedly toured the factory and spoke with officials. Korean Central News Agency released pictures of the visit and the smartphone which was claimed to have a high pixel in its camera.
KCNA claimed that “he highly appreciated the creative ingenuity and patriotic enthusiasm with which officials and employees of the factory laid a solid foundation for mass-producing hand phones by building a new modern hand phone production process.”
However, North Korea Tech has predicted that the smartphone may not be produced by the factory shown in the picture as the pictures don’t show a manufacturing environment. It posited that it may have been produced and it is only been inspected before the sale in North Korea.
One thing remains to be known though, we don’t know if North Korea will make internet access available to average North Koreans as it is presently not available.
