In a step to
increase privacy from spying eyes, Facebook co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg
has purchased four homes that are adjacent to his 5,617-square-foot Palo Alto
home for a cool price of more than $30 million.
San JoseMercury News reported that the coup began late last year after public records
displayed the home behind Zuckerberg’s was sold to a legal entity associated
with Iconic Capital, a firm based in San Francisco that handle financial
matters for Zuckerberg and other extremely rich tech bosses.

Mark
Zuckerberg took this step after it was discovered that a developer was trying
to buy properties beside his home and use the Mark Zuckerberg effect to make it
a hot cake.
“The
developer was going to build a huge house and market the property as being next
door to Mark Zuckerberg.” a source familiar with the matter disclosed to San
Jose Mercury News.
Mark
Zuckerberg wanted his privacy so bad that more than $14 million was used to
purchase one 2,650-square-foot house close to his building. This is a very
expensive price when you consider that Mark’s bigger 5,000-square-foot home was
purchased for $7 million in 2011. The home reportedly has a value of $3.171
million.
James Yang,
an agent with Sereno Group claims this is less surprising “if somebody wants to
buy a property and the sellers don’t want to sell.” Last month, two more homes
behind Zuckerberg’s and one next door were bought by entities associated with
Iconiq which was reported on Thursday by Silicon Valley Business Journal.
According to
the report, his neighbours will continue to live in their homes but Zuckerberg
will now be their landlord. The sale of these properties was not linked
directly to Mark Zuckerberg but neither was the purchase of his home in 2011.
The internet
multibillionaire who is currently worth $22.9 billion (according to Forbes)
lives in his Palo Alto home with Harvard classmate and physician wife Priscilla
Chan. Other popular tech personalities that live in Palo Alto include Google
CEO, Larry Page, Yahoo CEO, Marissa Mayer and former Apple CEO, Steve Jobs
while he was alive.
Facebook has
declined to comment about the matter.
