The evolution of mobile phones right from its invention in
1973 has been nothing short of a miracle. We have moved a long way to get to
where we are in the technology of phone making.
In recent years, phones with keyboard input being speedily
replaced with phones that use touchscreen as input.
Presently, touchscreen phones (mostly smartphones) own about
49.7% of the mobile phone market in the U. S. In the first quarter of 2013, Gartner
reports that 49.3% of mobile phone sales worldwide were smartphones. This means
the trend is fast shifting to touchscreen phones.
However there is the need to see the mobile phone which led
the pack in utilizing the groundbreaking technology.
Although there were reports that Apple made a prototype for
a touchscreen, the first mobile phone to use the touchscreen is the IBM Simon.
The IBM Simon was released in 1992 by IBM as a joint
creation with Bellsouth.
