The French tablet maker Archos has announced three smartphones
that are set to be part of the fast rising Android market. The smartphones will
be shipped unlocked and support 3G only.
In his words, Loic Poirier, chief executive of Archos said: "The smartphone market is shifting, as sim-free sales are increasing. Archos is
prepared to this change, as we can offer affordable, unlocked, and feature-rich
smartphones without the heaven price tag."
“Smartphones and tablets are interrelated markets that have quickly crossed over with the arrival of ‘phablets’ – half-phone, half-tablet devices,” Poirier continued.
“It only makes sense that this should be our next phase of products as this would be a natural fit for our brand and long term growth.”
The three smartphones; Archos 35 carbon, Archos 50 platinum,
Archos 53 platinum are set to be in the market by the end of May.
Referring to the Archos 53 platinum smart phone, he promised
“ an experienced similar to the galaxy s3 for half the price.”
The lowest in the range, Archos 35 carbon possesses a 3.5 inch IPS Multi-touch capacitive screen, it is equipped with the android 4.0 ice cream sandwich OS. It comes with a Qualcomm snapdragon S1 SoC processor clocked at 1GHz (7225A), 512mb of RAM (Random Access memory} and 4GB of internal storage.
It also include a VGA camera on the front and back, BLUETOOTH v3 + EDR, wi-FI connectivity on FM RADIO, A-GPS and a micro SD CARD and slot for up to 32GB of additional storage. It is expected Archos 35 carbon will go for £69.99 (about 17,500 naira).

It also includes 4GB of internal storage, a micro SD card slot for an additional 64GB, Bluetooth v3.0, a 2MP camera on the front, an 8MP camera on the back, FM stereo and more. The Archos 50 is expected to go for £179.99 (about 45,000 naira).
The last in line and probably the best is the Archos 53
platinum which is also equipped with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
It possesses a 5.3-inch IPS 5-point capacitive qHD touchscreen, the same quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play SoC clocked at 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM.
It also includes 4GB of internal storage, a micro SD card slot for up to 64GB of extra storage, Bluetooth v3.0, an FM radio, A-GPS and more. It has a 2MP camera in front and an 8MP camera in the rear.
It is similar to Archos 50 platinum and the major difference is the screen size. It is expected to cost £199.99 (about 50,000 naira).
